Say no to dog fouling Dog Fouling :

You may have seen our lovely 'NO' to dog fouling signs around the town. These are a discreet way of reminding people to not allow their dogs to foul in public places.
Free bio-degradeable poop scoop bags are available from any member of the tidy towns committee. Remember, Mayo County Council can apply a €150 on the spot fine to any owner allowing their dog to foul. Newport Tidy Towns are working closely with local agencies and bodies both in the day-to-day up-keep of the town and in implementing projects that enhance it. We are closely involved with the following agencies and would like to acknowledge their ongoing support and help :

RSS – provide additional manpower as required to carry out specialist work, e.g. tree-cutting, painting, large-scale weeding, mowing etc.

Tús - last year, we were assigned a participant on the newly created Tús scheme. He provides additional manpower to help keep pavements swept, weeding and general tidying up.

Mayo County Council – new town signs, road improvements, planning of 'Greenway Activity Park' and implementation of future projects identified.

NRA – in the past 12 months we have worked closely with the NRA on completion of the N59 upgrade, including signage and landscaping.

Newport and District Development Company (NADDCo) – financial assistance for signage and other smaller projects, hosting of our website, and provision of storage for Tidy Towns equipment.

Newport Community Futures – we continue to work closely with the Newport Community Futures steering committee, who completed a five year action plan for Newport in 2011.

Mayo County Community Forum – provided mentoring and guidance on development of Community Action Plan.

Marine Institute – have supplied biodiversity and local wildlife signs, and manage the 'Netlake' project in which they have involved the local national school.

Men's Shed – established in 2012, Newport Men's Shed provides an invaluable service to Tidy Towns, including assistance with our floral mural and erecting and taking down of seasonal decorations. They are also very involved in the 'Townland Signs' project.

Newport Traders Association - work to maintain litter control outside their business premises, with particular focus in 2012/2013 on cigarette butts.

An Taisce – provision of material for annual Spring Clean.
